About

I trained as a Paramedic, wanting to help people, and loved the job, but unfortunately had to give up due to a back injury. Wanting something else fulfilling in my life I turned to photography in 2018 as a means to express my creative side.

I was creative when I was younger, taking commissions for large scale paintings and murals, and photography seemed a natural progression.

I am a relative newbie to photography, and I am told I have a good eye for an image. The technical side seemed to come quite easily, although I admit I do not get too bogged down in it; I understand the exposure triangle, depth of field, good technique, and the rest seems to fall in place. Having an eye for the shot and understanding composition is where it really matters.

Gear

Olympus

I use Olympus bodies and lenses because the the size, features and quality of the weather sealed lenses suits me. It is compact enough for me to carry a good selection without being too heavy, and being mirrorless I can see exactly what I will get in the final image.

  • Olympus EM1MK2 Body

  • Olympus m.Zuiko 7-14 Pro f2.8

  • Olympus m.Zuiko 12-40 Pro f2.8

  • Olympus m.Zuiko 12-100 Pro f4

  • Olympus m.Zuiko 40-150 Pro f2.8

NiSi Filters

I use NiSi Filters for all of my work. I find the quality of the glass, and the ease of use of the system superior to other brands. Using a filter helps me to get the shot in one, I do not bracket and blend because I prefer to spend as little time processing as possible. I mostly use the M75 system, and use 100mm when needed.

  • NiSi V6 100mm Landscape Holder System

  • NiSi 3, 6 and 10 stop ND

  • My favourite Graduated ND, NiSi 3 Stop Medium

  • NiSi 3 Stop Soft and Reverse Graduated ND's

Other Gear

Tripod

Benro Mach3 Carbon 27C Tripod and G2 Ball Head.

Favorite Accessory

L Bracket and my wooly bobble hat.

Clothing

I quickly learned this is an area you have to get right, being cold and miserable outdoors is horrible. Money spent wisely on good clothing matters just as much as other photography gear. I use Rab, Fjalraven, and Berghause for clothing, and Salomon for boots, along with my Much Boot wellies in Pink.
